The shape of it
About
On select weekend evenings, short bursts of fireworks light up the Minato Mirai waterfront in Yokohama. These free five-minute displays launch from the harbour piers and are a relaxed, crowd-friendly alternative to Japan's huge summer hanabi, in the run-up to GREEN x EXPO 2027.
Highlights
- Short, free fireworks over the Minato Mirai harbour on weekend nights
- Views from Rinko Park, Red Brick Warehouse, Yamashita Park and the Whale's Back rooftop
- Backdrop of the Cosmo Clock 21 Ferris wheel and lit skyline
- Easy add-on to a Yokohama day trip with no ticket needed
Plan it well
- Yokohama is about 30 minutes from central Tokyo by train; Minatomirai or Sakuragicho station puts you at the waterfront.
- Displays last only about 5 minutes, so arrive 20-30 minutes early and stake out a harbour view.
- Launches alternate between Shinko Pier and Osanbashi Pier—check the official row for your date and the day-of notice.
- Combine with dinner along the Red Brick Warehouse or a ride on the Ferris wheel.
