The shape of it
About
Tokyo Game Show is one of the world's biggest video game expos, held at Makuhari Messe in neighbouring Chiba. The 2026 edition marks its 30th anniversary and expands to five days for the first time, with playable demos, esports, cosplay and major industry reveals.
Highlights
- Playable demos of upcoming games from major Japanese and international studios
- Big-screen announcements, trailers and developer stage sessions
- Esports tournaments, indie game corner and a large cosplay presence
- 30th-anniversary edition expanded to five days, expecting around 300,000 attendees
Plan it well
- Makuhari Messe is in Chiba, not central Tokyo — it's about 30-40 minutes by JR Keiyo Line from Tokyo Station to Kaihimmakuhari.
- Public days (Sept 19-21) get extremely crowded; go early and expect long lines for popular demos.
- Buy public-day tickets in advance — they are not a same-day walk-in for the best access.
- The final public day closes at 16:00; plan your must-see booths accordingly.
